Steamboat Amps celebrates 9 years in business with a new partnership and charity fundraising event February 8th, 2018

Houston, TX — Jacob “Captain Jake” Rynearson started Steamboat Amps in January of 2009, repairing guitar and bass amps, building custom amps, and installing one-of-a-kind sound systems. Clients include Little Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs, the Greenhornes), Mark Pelli (MAGIC!), Gio Chamba, Poison Girl, Double Trouble Caffeine and Cocktails, and the new Houston-area bar Goodnight Charlie’s.
To celebrate 9 years in business the company is throwing an open-house party and charity fundraiser on Thursday February 8th, 2018 6-9pm at their Downtown workshop. The event is also celebrating Steamboat’s new partnership with SugarHill Studios – America’s oldest operational recording studio now in its 76th year of business.
The goal of this event is to raise money for the Buffalo Bayou Partnership through T-shirt sales and raffle tickets. Raffle prizes include a Steamboat guitar pedal, gift certificates to Moving Sidewalk, locally roasted Katz Coffee and a four-hour block of studio time at SugarHill. Shirts designed by acclaimed Houston artist Blake Jones will be available for $20, and raffle tickets will be $5.
Sam Turner and the Cactus cats will be performing on the outdoor stage at Steamboat at 7pm. With a stunning view of Downtown this event should not be missed. Raffle drawings will be made at the end of their performance at 8pm. Refreshments will be provided by co-sponsors St. Arnold’s Brewery and Katz Coffee with food trucks TBA. Ford Kent will be displaying visual projection art inside the workshop.
Steamboat has made a name for itself as the go-to repair shop for inner city musicians. Adding a retail component to the business last year has expanded opportunities for the business, partnerships and clients alike. Steamboat is working with SugarHill to offer even more products aimed towards the professional music maker, like recording equipment and microphones.
“By joining Steamboat and SugarHill together Houston’s creative music scene could not be stronger. The legacy of the studio is something as a Houstonian we can all be proud of,” says Rynearson.
New SugarHill Studios owner and Steamboat partner, Fred Hightower, adds “creating a space at SugarHill for Steamboat to demonstrate new products and recording equipment allows us to diversify our services and make the client experience better than ever before.”
This is a free event aimed at attracting Houston music professionals and creators to network and enjoy a fun evening of drinks and music. Free street parking is available along Burnett St. An after party will be held at Moving Sidewalk beginning at 9pm, just a few minutes from Steamboat.
